The Leading the Way Programme is a credit-bearing, three-course training pathway developed by Word and Life Church as part of its 7 Growth Steps and in partnership with WNL Network Training Academy. It is designed to equip current and emerging leaders in the local church with theological depth, spiritual maturity, and practical ministry skills. Each course is registered at NQF Level 5 with 5 credits, and together they form a part-qualification under the Occupational Certificate: Christian Religious Professional.

This programme is ideal for those serving in local churches who may not be able to pursue full-time studies, but who desire to lead, serve, and disciple others with greater biblical understanding and ministry competence.

Course 1: Foundation of the Christian Faith

NQF Level 5 | 5 Credits

This foundational course explores who God is according to Scripture His nature, character, and redemptive work. It covers essential doctrines such as the Trinity, creation, human dignity and the fall, salvation through Christ, and the role of the Holy Spirit. Learners are guided to reflect on how these truths shape personal faith and pastoral practice, while engaging with African cultural understandings of God.
The goal is to deepen the theological understanding, promote spiritual clarity, and equip leaders to confidently teach and minister within the local church.

Course 2: Mission of the Church

NQF Level 5 | 5 Credits

This course focuses on the Church’s divine purpose in the world, rooted in Scripture and shaped by Christ’s Great Commission. Learners explore the Church’s calling to evangelism, discipleship, social justice, and community engagement. The course unpacks how the local church becomes an agent of transformation in its context, addressing both spiritual and societal needs.
Special attention is given to the Vision and Mission of Word and Life Church and how it is lived out in everyday ministry and how leaders can mobilize congregations to actively represent Christ in their local communities.

Course 3: Biblical Leadership

NQF Level 5 | 5 Credits

This course provides a biblical and practical foundation for leadership in the church. It examines the character, calling, and responsibilities of a spiritual leader through the lens of Scripture and servant leadership principles. Learners are equipped to lead with integrity, humility, and vision fostering healthy teams, guiding church initiatives, and mentoring others.
The course also covers common leadership challenges and how to lead through change, conflict, and growth while remaining rooted in God’s Word and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
